For adult children
For adult children — helping a parent make a smart decision.
When a parent is considering a reverse mortgage, the questions you ask are different than the questions they ask. I answer both.
The three concerns I hear most
- "How do I know this is the right decision for my parent?" — Most adult children want what's best for their parents. My role is to provide clear, unbiased education so your family understands the options, asks the right questions, and feels confident that the decision is being made in your parent's best interest.
- "Do I have the financial resources to help my parents with their medical and living expenses?" — A reverse mortgage can take pressure off adult children who would otherwise be subsidizing their parents' costs. Sometimes it's the kindest answer for everyone.
- "What are my parents' wishes about staying home if medical care is needed?" — Most seniors want to age in place. A reverse mortgage line of credit can be the difference between staying home and moving to assisted living.
Common Questions from Adult Children
How do I know this is the right decision?
Every family is different. We'll review the options together, answer every question, and make sure your parent understands their choices before moving forward.
Will my parent still own their home?
Yes. Your parent remains on title and continues to own the home. The lender places a lien, just like any other mortgage.
Can our family be involved?
Absolutely. I encourage family participation so everyone understands the options and feels comfortable with the decision.
What happens later?
The loan typically becomes due when the last borrower permanently leaves the home, sells the property, or passes away.
What happens to the home?
Heirs may sell the home, refinance to keep it, or purchase it. We'll explain the available options well before those decisions need to be made.
